Lilly Library Policy: Lost Materials Payment and Reimbursement
Adopted December 4, 2008
When an item is lost or damaged the patron will be charged the replacement cost for that material.
Overdue Charges:
DVD and Video item types accrue a $1.00 daily fine with a maximum fine of $5.00 per item. Circulating print and audio material accrue a .10 daily overdue fine with a $3.00 maximum fine per item.
Lost Book Replacement Charge:
Patrons will be charged the replacement cost of the material. The default replacement charge if the price is unknown is $25 (however adjustments will be made to this price, if appropriate).
Methods of Payment:
- Cash, check or credit card
- Replacement with a NEW copy of the same book in the same binding; or with a similar title of same binding and value with approvalof either the Assistant Director for adult materials, the Children’s Librarian for children’s items and the Young Adult Librarian for young adult items.
Reimbursement for a Lost & Paid Item That Has Been Found:
Reimbursement will be made only for materials
- returned within 28 days of the day that payment was made for the lost item. After that time no reimbursement will be made.
Why? Because replacement funds will have been used for purchase after that time.
Reimbursement Rates:
The Cost of the Material (Amount the Patron Paid)
Minus
The maximum overdue charge for the material
$5 for DVD/Video
$3 for all other materials
If an item paid for was equal to or less than the overdue charges, there will be no reimbursement.
